DNA synthesis occurs in G1 phase, actually DNA synthesis occurs only in S phase. In G1 there occurs the synthesis of non-histone proteins, RNA's, hormones and all other biochemicals required for the normal metabolism of cells. In S phase there occurs the synthesis of DNA and histone proteins. And in G2- which is the continuation of the G1- prepares the cell for the coming mitotic phase.
