This video explains Nylon was the first of the synthetic fibers made by man, and is considered one of the most important chemical discoveries because of its toughness, strength, elasticity, and resistance to oil and grease. In the late 1920s and the early 1930s, chemists at the DuPont Company first produced nylon by combining chemicals they extracted from coal, water, air, petroleum, natural gas, and agricultural by-products. In a process called polymerization, the nylon is made. Polyamides made with monomers hexa-methylene di-amine and adipic acid. Solid chips of the polyamides are melted in a heated spinneret which has very, very tiny holes. The size and shape of the holes changes, the characteristics of the resulting fiber. Nylon fiber is strong, elastic and light weight. Cloths made of nylon are lustrous and easy to wash. It does not observe the water, so it can be used in many ways. It easily catches fire; we should not wear nylon wears while cooking, welding, when playing with fireworks. Many things made of nylon like tooth brush bristles, ropes, fishing nets, tents, sarees, stockings and socks, car seat belts, sleeping bags, curtains etc.,
