This is also known as law of conservation of energy i.e., energy can neither be created nor to be destroyed. In a thermodynamic process, the increment in the internal energy of a system is equal to the difference between the increment of heat accumulated by the system and the increment of work done by it.
Applications:-In many chemical reactions which involve generation of gasses, capable of doing work or the generation of heat. Work done or heat evolved can be calculated by first law. Reversible process: A process is said to be reversible , if a change is brought out in such a way that the process could , at any moment, be reversed by an infinitesimal change .A reversible process proceeds infinitely slowly by a series of equilibrium states such that the system and the surroundings are always in equilibrium.
