Definition of cosmetic : Any substance, preparation or treatment applied to the person to cleanse, beautify, and alter the appearance or to promote the attractiveness of the person is "cosmetic". Cosmetics include Cold-cream, Nail polish and face powder.

Cold-cream : Cold creams are used as cosmetics for skin; they protect the skin from hot sun, effect of cold breeze and dust. Cold cream, clean the skin and make it feel smooth. A good quality cream melts at body temperature and spreads readily over the skin. Cold creams mainly contain almond-oil, beeswax and rose water with some perfumes. Modified creams are to suit the nature of skin, time and duration of applying the cream.

Nailpolish : Nail polish is a cosmetic applied on nails for attraction. Nail polish consists of a polymeric resin, a plasticizer, colouring pigments and perfumes dissolved in a mixture of low boiling solvents. When nail polish is applied, solvents evaporate fast leaving the ingredients sticking to the nail.

Face powder : Powder is the largest selling single item among the cosmetics. Powder applied to the face to remove oil and sweat and impart smooth finish to the skin. Powder has five characteristics they are.
1. Opacity covering power.
2. Slip Ease of distribution.
3. Adherence sticking to the skin.
4. Absorbency Absorb oil and sweat.
5. Fineness size of the powder particles.

Face : Powder consists of the following ingredients.
1. Opacity: Titanium dioxide, Zinc oxide.
2. Slip: Talc, soap contains calcium, magnesium salts.
3. Adherence: Calcium stearate, Zinc stearate.
4. Absorbency: Calcium carbonate, Magnesium carbonate.
5. Colour: Natural earths like ochers and umbers.
6. Perfume: Scents and aromatics.
