Compounds of Xenon:Xe forms three fluorides XeF2, XeF4 and XeF6. These are prepared by the direct union of the constituent element under appropriate conditions.XeF6 can also be prepared by the interaction of XeF4 and O2F2 at 143k, XeF2, XeF4 and XeF6 all color less crystalline solids and sublimes at 298k.These are powerful fluorinating agents. These can be hydrolysedeasily.These react with fluoride ion acceptors to form cationic species and fluoride ion donors to form fluoro anions, XeF6 on Partial hydrolysis given XeOF4 and XeO2F2. In XeF2 "Xe" undergoes Sp3d hybridization. It has threelone pairs and two bond pairs. So shape is linear.In XeF4,"Xe" undergoes Sp3d2 hybridization. It has two lone pairand four bond pairs. So shape is square pyramidal.
