Compounds of Xenon:Xe forms three fluorides XeF2, XeF4 and XeF6. These are prepared by the direct union of the constituent element under appropriate conditions. XeF6 can also be prepared by the interaction of XeF4 and O2F2 at 143k, XeF2, XeF4 and XeF6 all color less crystalline solids and sublimes at 298k.These are powerful fluorinating agents. These can be hydrolysed easily.These react with fluoride ion acceptors to form cationic species and fluoride ion donors to form fluoro anions, XeF6 on Partial hydrolysis given XeOF4 and XeO2F2. In XeF2 "Xe" undergoes Sp3d hybridization. It has threelone pairs and two bond pairs. So shape is linear.In XeF4,"Xe" undergoes Sp3d2 hybridization. It has two lone pairand four bond pairs. So shape is square pyramidal.In XeF6,"Xe" undergoes Sp3d3 hybridization. It has one lonepair and 6 bond pairs. So its shape is distorted octahedral.Xe forms two Oxides XeO3 and XeO4Xenon trioxide and Xenon tetroxide XeO3 is formed by the hydrolysis of XeF4 and XeF6. XeF6.XeO3 is a colorless explosive solid and power fulOxidising agent.In XeO3 ,Xe undergoes Sp3 hybridization. One lone pair and three bond pair so shape is pyramidal. In XeO4 ,Xe undergoes Sp3 hybridization. It has 4 bond pairs. So shape is tetrahedral. It forms 4dπ-pπ bonds with 4 oxygen atoms.Xe forms five oxyfluoride. They are Xenonoxyfluoride XeOF2 Xenon oxy tetraflorideXeOF4,XenondioxydiflourideXe­O2F2, Xenon tri oxy difluorideXeO3F2 and xenon dioxytetraflorideXeO2F4. In XeOF2 ,Xe undergoes Sp3d hybridisation and shape T-shape.In XeOF4, xe undergoes Sp3d2hybridisation and shape square pyramidal.In XeO2F2Xe undergoes Sp3d2 hybridisation and shapes distorted tetrahedral.In XeO3F2,Xe undergoes Sp3d hybridisation and shape is Trigonal bipyramidal.In XeO2F4 ,Xe undergoes Sp3d2hybridisation and shapes is octahedral.
